How to Ward off Computer Viruses

» Do not open email attachments! If e-mail with an attachment comes from an unknown sender, or unexpectedly from a known sender, do not click on or open the attachment! Delete the email message. If you receive an unexpected attachment from a friend, call your friend on the telephone or send a new email message (do not reply to the suspect email message!) and ask about it.

» Do not accept files through Chat! If you are in a Chat Room, and someone tries to send you a file, do not accept it.

» Anti-virus software is a must! It should be updated at least once a week to recognize newly released viruses. Be sure your antivirus software can be set up to automatically update its virus definition file - a very useful and convenient feature.

» Every computer that connects to the Internet should have a personal firewall installed on it. For example, Norton Internet Security is a popular, easy-to-use and easy-to-install personal firewall software package.

» Don't forward e-mail virus warning messages! Almost all of them are hoaxes, and only create needless worry.
